1. Before using the mercury oxide electrode, please remove the rubber sleeve from the liquid junction .
2. During measurement, the salt bridge solution of the Hg/ HgO electrode should fill the salt bridge to ensure that the electrode forms a circuit. The solution inside the salt bridge should be higher than the liquid level of the sample solution being tested to prevent the test solution from permeating in the opposite direction and changing the concentration or composition of the salt bridge solution.
3. The salt bridge solution inside the electrode should not contain large air bubbles to avoid blocking the electronic measurement circuit. If air bubbles are present, you can hold the electrode tightly and shake it a few times, or stand the electrode upright and flick it with your finger to make the air bubbles float to the surface.
4. Not suitable for measurements in media that react with mercury/mercury oxide (Hg/ HgO ). If it is unavoidable to use other concentrations of NaOH or reactive media, it is recommended to use a double-salt bridged mercury/mercury oxide (Hg/ HgO ) electrode to block the influence of the test solution on the core of the mercury oxide electrode.
5. The mercury oxide electrode should be cleaned and the salt bridge solution replaced frequently. General adhesions and contaminants should be cleaned promptly. When replacing the salt bridge solution, remove the rubber cap from the injection port at the top of the electrode, extract the old salt bridge solution, and then inject the new solution.
6. Because the electrode contains mercuric oxide, which is a toxic substance, and the salt bridge solution is corrosive, please strictly follow the relevant laboratory safety regulations during operation.
7. When removing the electrode cap, do not expose the electrode to air for an extended period (more than several minutes). Otherwise, the solution in the glass tube will leak and evaporate, potentially affecting the electrode's performance. If the electrode is not in use for a short period, immerse the electrode liquid region in 1.0 mol/L NaOH medium for storage. If it is not to be used for a long period, replace the solution with fresh 1.0 mol/L NaOH before sealing and storing it away from light.
8. When removing the electrode caps, it is recommended to remove the caps at both the top and bottom ends at the same time to avoid creating a pressure difference between the inside and outside of the electrode, which could cause the liquid flow rate at the bottom of the electrode to be too fast.
9. Operating temperature of mercury oxide electrode: It is recommended to use it at room temperature.
10. Reference electrodes such as mercury oxide electrodes should not be ultrasonically cleaned.
11. The salt bridge solution for the mercury oxide electrode is 1 mol/L NaOH. If other concentrations of NaOH solution or other solutions are used, the electrode potential will change due to the change in the concentration and composition of the salt bridge solution, which may also affect the lifespan of the electrode.
