How should an Hg/HgO reference electrode be stored?

  • Short-term storage: Clean the outer surface of the electrode with distilled water, put on a rubber cap, and immerse the liquid junction in 1.0 mol/L KOH medium.• Long-term storage: First, pour out the old solution, replace it with a brand new 1.0 mol/L KOH solution, tighten the seal cap, and store in a dry, cool and dark place.
  • Pressure balance: When removing or putting on the electrode cap, it is recommended to operate both the top and bottom ends at the same time to avoid creating an internal and external pressure difference that could cause abnormal flow rate in the internal liquid network .
  • Safety and Contraindications: Hg/ HgO electrodes contain toxic metallic mercury and mercuric oxide . Do not use them for ultrasonic cleaning. Disposal must comply with local environmental chemical recycling regulations.
